Superintendent sets course record in Shakopee, Minnesota

(SHAKOPEE, MN JUNE 28, 2006) Duane Slaughter's golf score of 66 set the new course record at Stonebrooke Golf Club in Shakopee, Minnesota, on Thursday, June 22, 2006, during Men's League play. The previous course record of 67 was set twelve years ago at Stonebrooke, where par is 71.

“It felt like I was in a zone, said Slaughter, who had two eagles in his round and made twos on par fours. Every ball I hit was down the middle of the fairway.” His previous best score was 70.

Slaughter is superintendent of the golf course, and was playing in the Men's League tournament with Stonebrooke club member Russ Madren, pro Bryan Connelly and colleague Martin Mack. He plays the course several times a week with a handicap of one, and has been a golfer since grade school.

Duane is a good athlete. He¡s all about winning and being the best, says Einar Odland, General Manager of Stonebrooke.

Historically, golf course superintendents are not good players. They have a horticulture background and don¡t understand the game. Duane cannot only play well, but he maintains the golf course better than most, constructing and redesigning the holes. He¡s one of the best in the business.

Stonebrooke is an 18-hole, par 30 golf course built nineteen years ago in the neighborhood development of lakeshore and golf front homes by Laurent Builders.
